A fleet of vulnerable boats, suspended in space and time, are captured in the act of sailing through the gallery, towards their future, an unknown destination. These are fragile boats, made from paper, wood, plastic, textiles, found materials and objects, each taking a metaphorical and perilous journey to cross the sea.

Sea Crossing is a collaborative and experimental installation by SoCo Artists, made in response to For Those in Peril on the Sea, a work by
international artist, Hew Locke, shown in the Folkestone Triennial (2011). As part of the project, we are hosting and Artist Talk with Hew Locke at Hastings Museum & Art Gallery at 2pm on Saturday 17 September, £5 entrance on the door. See separate Talks for more information. Not to be missed!

Both events are part of the ROOT 1066 International Festival of Contemporary Art

Visit our News page for images of the resulting installation and feedback from visitors, including Hew Locke.
