Thank you for your enquiry regarding membership of SoCo (South Coast Artists)

Who we are/what we do

 

SoCo is a Hastings based artist led project which aims to develop a challenging programme of exhibitions, talks, seminars and workshops .While we are committed to creating opportunities for artists and establishing a professionally run, high quality project , we are a not for profit organisation, and currently much of our work is done on a voluntary basis, and as such, members will be encouraged to support the project as much as possible.(See application form attached)

Membership

Membership is available by application only and the current annual subscription is £25 for those who wish to support the project but are unable to commit their time; £15 for members who wish to make a commitment to assisting in SoCo's work, or a student. While our current membership is mainly Hastings/ St. Leonards based, we welcome applications from further afield.

Members should be committed arts practitioners and so applicants are required to submit a CV, 6 photographs or a CD of recent work which reflect their current practice. These will be submitted to the SoCo committee at their next meeting. Applicants should allow between 4 - 6weeks for processing, and will be notified by post.

SoCo exhibitions are held in a variety of venues. Membership does not guarantee exhibition of work, but will entitle you to submit work for selection in SoCo exhibitions.

It is a condition of exhibition that participating artists are prepared to invigilate for at least one full day (or equivalent)

Selection and hanging of work will always be the sole responsibility of the assigned SoCo committee, or their appointed curators.

 

What we offer

SoCo offers opportunities for artists to develop their practice through its core programme of workshops, talks exhibitions and events. We also provide opportunitiies to collaborate with other artists. Members are entitled to reduced rates for SoCo workshops and talks. Members are encouraged to submit proposals for exhibitions/workshops/talks to the committee and are entitled to a presence on the SoCo website: www.soco.org.uk .

Members will be placed on our mailing list, (preferably email) kept informed of SoCo exhibitions and events, and will be able to attend annual general meetings and vote to elect committee members.
