My work addresses social and cultural issues. I observe my subjects from afar, then close-up and look at how I can conflate the historical with the present, or mix the context to present a tension in my image, usually portraits. I like to subvert, to make ‘edgy’ pictures. From the male gaze to the colonial gaze, I play with role reversals and the theatrical tableau.
My work is in the collections of the National Portrait Gallery, David and Sarah Kowitz and Michael Wilson.
